Skippered Charter

A skippered holiday is a chance to set the pace, decide your itinerary and be as relaxed as you choose. You can enjoy as much hands-on sailing as you like, or let your skipper take the helm and sail the yacht for you. It’s a perfect holiday for families, couples and friends – sailors and non-sailors – which allows you to be as carefree as you want.
Skippered charter suits guests who love to sail and guests who’ve never sailed before. If you’re an experienced sailor then you can do as much sailing as you want, and simply treat your skipper as an experienced, extra pair of hands – while you take charge.

About our skippers

You can follow our pre-planned route or set the itinerary (and the pace) to suit you. Our skippers know all the best islands, anchorages and cultural sights…and of course the best places for dinner. They are sort of like your own personal guide to the area and
Above all, they’re sociable folk, keen to impart sailing tips and knowledge; and they choose this way of life because (like us) they love sailing and mixing with sailors.

Choose your route, set the pace

You can follow our pre-planned routes or set the itinerary (and the pace) to suit you. Choose either the Aegean or the Ionian and sail as much or as little as you like.

Aegean
Cruise around the classical Greek Riviera and discover islands like Spetses and Hydra with clearwater anchorages aplenty. Visit myriad cultural spots like the Caves of Franchthi (the oldest human dwelling in the world) or the Medieval town of Nafplion. All our cruises start and finish at our 4* Beach Club hotel in Porto Heli which is great to combine with a second week of Stay and Sail.

Ionian
Our one and two week, South Ionian and North Ionian cruises start from Lefkas marina. You can choose a southern or northern route, or why not cruise both routes over two weeks?
The Ionian is ideal for two week Stay Sail holiday to Vassiliki and for families and newly qualified Skippers to get to grips with sailing. The Ionians also suit more experienced sailors looking for a relaxing holiday with predictable conditions: calm every morning, with a decent breeze in the afternoon. It’s a favourite cruising ground of our MD James.

Choose your yacht

Choose your yacht and hire a skipper for the week. He or she will do as much (or as little) sailing as you want. Their fee (below) is on top of your yacht and holiday cost.

Skippered yachts can follow our Flotilla route (which is great for the social!) or you can sail your own path and be as adventurous or as relaxed as you like.

Where does your Skipper sleep?

Skippers normally sleep onboard so reserve a cabin for them. However, by special arrangement, they can sleep on our lead boat when following the flotilla and give you some privacy after sailing has ended for the day.
On our Oceanis 51.1 your skipper will sleep in a dedicated crew cabin which has a separate entrance and heads to the main living area, so that your family and friends can enjoy more privacy.

How it all works

On arrival at the yacht base our yacht team will show you to your yacht and how to work the domestic systems so you can spend the night aboard. You can spend the rest of arrival day provisioning your yacht, so do remember to allow for the skipper in your shopping.

Your skipper will join you on Monday morning at about 9 am and shortly after a safety briefing, you will set off for your first lunchtime anchorage and island destination.

Your skipper will be responsible for your yacht. Your skipper will need at least one person to occasionally assist them with sailing. For example, when mooring up and setting off.
